Duncan A. McMillan has practiced law in Raleigh, North Carolina since 1977.  For the last twenty-five years he has concentrated his practice in the field of criminal trials in the state District and Superior courts.  He has earned a reputation as an outstanding trial lawyer and advocate.
                  
Duncan is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and has served as a Board member for the Criminal Law Section of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers.  He has served in a number of roles, including multiple terms on the Board of Directors of his local Bar Association, and is a past President of the Wake County Academy of Criminal Trial Lawyers.

Duncan has spent his professional career representing ordinary folks charged with criminal offenses ranging from speeding tickets, to drunk driving, to drug violations, to sex offenses, to capital murder offenses.

He has obtained acquittals in jury trials for offenses of first degree murder, first degree sex offense, drug trafficking, continuing  criminal enterprise, obtaining property by false pretense, driving while impaired, and a variety of assaults.

There are a number of excellent criminal attorneys in Raleigh and Wake County.  Duncan McMillan is one of them.  He has been selected by his peers to be listed in “The best Lawyers in America” for a number of years.  He has been designated among “The Best of the Best” of North Carolina lawyers by statewide and local business publications.

Duncan is quick to refer potential clients to other attorneys if the facts of a case suggest that some other attorney can provide a greater service in a particular case.  However, if he undertakes to represent you, he will do his best to provide you with the highest quality of representation available.

Duncan attended undergraduate school at Wake Forest University, graduating cum laude with a B.A. degree in Latin in 1974.  While at Wake Forest, Duncan participated in studies in Venice, Italy, as well as in the Talamanca Jungle of Costa Rica.  He was also an All-ACC Academic athlete, in cross country. 

Duncan graduated by the skin of his teeth from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he was asked to give the welcoming address at commencement exercises for his graduating Class in 1977.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Duncan is married to Cornelia Howell McMillan.  They have two children; a daughter, Campbell, who is a student at Appalachian State University, and Evan, who graduated from Wake forest University in 2007.  If he were not quite so busy, he would be paddling through the Lumber River Swamp, in Scotland County, North Carolina.
